Queues provide a facility to pre-define a group of one or more Reports and their options and quickly run them at the click of a button. You can Preview the reports or Print them directly to a printer.
Queues are very useful for things such as:
- Saving specialised report parameters so they don't have to be re-entered every time the report needs to be run. Examples include:
- Trial Balance Report for a range of Account Types.
- Trial Balance Report grouped by Account Types.
- Trial Balance Report grouped by Account Types and for a range of Account Types.
- Daily or Task orientated Reports.
- Typically one or more Reports might be printed prior to completing some task. For example, prior to chasing overdue accounts one or more reports with set options might be printed.
- A Queue could hold the list of Reports and their options to print in one place.
- Monthly or other Periodic series of Reports.
- Typically a series of Reports are printed at the end of each month, quarter or year.
- These reports can be saved as a "queue" and run together without user interaction.
Benefits of using Queues include:
- Reduced errors. As report options are saved with the Queue there is less scope for user errors, e.g. forgetting to group by or set other report options when running each report individually.
- Speed. "Queued" reports are run without user interaction and can be set to run overnight, so as to minimise the impact on your computer network.
