There are a range of measures that can be taken to ensure finPOWER Connect runs as quickly as possible. Unticking any of these options can increase the performance, which may be especially important for larger databases and companies with several concurrent users.
Use Global Performance Settings?
Tick if the User is to use the Global Performance Settings.
Preload information when opening database?
When ticked this will load all global collections upon first opening the database. This may cause a slight delay but means that opening any other form such as the Accounts form will be faster the first time, since much of the information required by this form, e.g. External Parties, will already be loaded.
Use Client dropdowns?
Leave unticked to force Client searching using the Client Search menu option. finPOWER Connect will perform faster overall if you do not use dropdown boxes. Click here for more information on dropdown lists.
Allow Client searches with no criteria?
Searches are best performed using as much information as possible. It will be slower to search without entering any criteria.

Show Unactioned Log counts?
Ticking this option will force finPOWER Connect to calculate the number of unactioned logs each time you switch between accounts. This is a drain on performance and is best left unticked for maximum efficiency.
Show Unpublished Log counts?
Ticking this option will force finPOWER Connect to calculate the number of unpublished logs each time you switch between accounts. This is a drain on performance and is best left unticked for maximum efficiency.
Ignore form Notification Actions?
Untick to prevent a notification being sent to the form when an action is completed. E.g. if you add a new client log, a notification is sent to the Client form to refresh and include the new log.
Avoid locking records while running reports if possible?
Locking records means that no other user can access clients or accounts that you are reporting on. This can cause other users to experience slower performance, and may even prevent them from viewing some clients and accounts. It is not always possible to prevent this, but this option should be left unticked to minimise the impact of running reports on other users.
When and how should form database dropdowns be refreshed?
Items on Database Dropdown lists are constantly changing, as new Clients and Accounts are added or closed and other changes are made throughout the day. Refreshing the lists from the database takes more computer power than refreshing from the Cache (data stored each time you make an enquiry from the Database).
From the Database when opening a form
If ticked you will ask finPOWER Connect to go to the Database to get a new list each time you open the Form. This impacts the most on performance, but means there is a completely up to date list to view.
From the Database when Activated (returning to) a form
Means you will ask finPOWER Connect to go to the Database to get a new list each time you click on the Dropdown button. This is a drain on performance, but means there is a completely up to date list to view.
