Copy Database, Overview
<< Previous |

The Copy Database utility allows you to make a copy of your database. This may be to create a regular Backup, a training database for staff to use away from the live environment, or you may be trialling another database provider, e.g. moving up from Access to SQLServer.

Use the Copy Database facility to upsize a Database from Access to SQLServer, or to copy back from SQLServer to Access

To copy the database currently open in finPOWER Connect, you must have the database open in 'Exclusive Mode' so that no other User can open the database and make changes whilst the copy is in progress.. To do this, select Open Database from the File menu. Select the Database Type and Name, then click Next. Tick Open in Exclusive mode and then Finish.

  • The Permission Key "Database.OpenExclusiveMode" is to stop a User opening a Database in Exclusive mode.
  • Due to the sequence of events, the user will still see the option to open in "Exclusive Mode", if they try to do so an error will occur upon opening the database and the database is immediately closed. This is because Permission Keys are stored in the database and related to Users, therefore until the User has logged into the database it cannot be determined if they are allowed to open in Exclusive Mode.
  • The message displayed when opening a database that is already in Exclusive Mode shows the Windows User as well as finPOWER Connect User.
  • A User Policy can also be used to deny exclusive access to the database. The message displayed will state "User Policy does not allow Databases to be opened in Exclusive Mode.".
